Finally! I watched the hit TV series “The Office.” Okay, by now, I’m almost through my second viewing. I’ve heard everyone talk about this series for years… and tried as I might, I could never get past the first episode. But for whatever reason (let’s call it Netflix), I decided to keep watching this time and I fell in love. I fell in love with the characters, their stories, with laughing my head off during each episode. (This is why when you get hooked, you can’t watch this series just once!)
You know what else? I learn something new each time I re-watch an episode. There’s a life lesson, a quip, a piece of the puzzle I didn’t notice before. The characters start to become your friends and before you know it, you’re quoting their funny lines. Shoot - I even teared up a little during the season finale! Thanks to Pam Beesley for this gem:
There’s a lot of beauty in ordinary things, isn’t that kind of the point?
Your marketing strategy is the same in two ways…
- It takes more than one try. Just like it took me several tries to get into the series, (I really wanted to know what people were talking about when “Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica” randomly came up in conversation) it will take more than one tweet to grow your Twitter base. It will take more than one tactic to create a strategy. More than one Facebook Ad to get 200 clicks on your website.
- It doesn’t have to be complicated. Remember that perfection is the enemy of progress. Just start. See how many likes, comments, clicks, calls you get and adjust as needed. Read articles, do some research. Bottom line: do what works for your business and be consistent.
What’s one thing you can do today that will get your strategy headed in the right direction?
